The underbridge is a 4 track rail bridge that required substantial strengthening upgrades and RKR were engaged to undertake these works. Over the course of multiple possessions, the cross girders at either end of the bridge on all 4 tracks were replaced with also 8 new steel bearing sets installed during the process. To enable these works to occur, major deconstruction works of the bridge needed to occur to enable access to the cross girders which included removal of transoms & 16 steel stringers.
As part of this project RKR were also required to design, manufacture & install a new beam that ran adjacent to the bridge that new signal troughing will be fitted to. These works were completed in a separate possession to the other main cross girder works.
