Commercial Track Construction

Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport - SSTOM

As delivery partner to Webuild within the Parklife Metro consortium, we delivered a major trackwork package for the Sydney Metro SSTOM project. Our scope included 45 km of slab track, 8 km of ballasted track, and 1 km of embedded and pedestal track across tunnels, viaducts, surface alignments and the Stabling and Maintenance Facility.

The project utilised advanced slab track technology to provide greater stability, durability, and reduced maintenance requirements compared to traditional ballasted systems. To support efficient delivery, we designed and deployed four high-production concrete placement units and implemented reusable formwork systems, improving productivity while reducing environmental impact.

Despite the complexity of the alignment and varied construction environments, the project was delivered through innovative engineering solutions, advanced construction methodologies, and a workforce of more than 450 personnel at peak.

An Australian first: Delivery of Australia’s longest continuous slab track system, spanning 45 km.

Benefits of our approach

  • Delivered a large-scale, high-performance rail track system across a complex metro network.
  • Accelerated delivery through the use of bespoke high-production concrete placement units.
  • Improved long-term asset performance through the adoption of slab track technology.
  • Reduced future maintenance requirements and lifecycle costs.
  • Increased construction efficiency and consistency through innovative installation methods.
  • Embedded sustainability initiatives through the use of reusable formwork systems, reducing waste and environmental impact.
  • Successfully managed complex interfaces across tunnels, viaducts, surface alignments, and operational facilities.
  • Delivered a critical component of Sydney's expanding metro network safely, efficiently, and to a high quality standard.

Our involvement in this landmark project demonstrates our expertise in delivering large‑scale rail infrastructure and reinforces our position as a leader in Australia’s rail construction sector. The Western Sydney Airport Line will be a cornerstone of Sydney’s future transport network and a significant milestone for our organisation.
